LAWTON, Okla. — Southern Nazarene picked off No. 12 Cameron in No. 1 doubles and
Deisi Bolivar picked up a win at No. 3 doubles as SNU fell 7-2 at Cameron in the season opener.
The Crimson Storm (0-1) led in a handful of matches in both singles and doubles and were leading in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles early, but couldn't hold on to late leads.
Masha Andrianova and
Marina Shipilova took care of Amanda Moberg and Florencia 8-3 at No. 1.
Natalia Moreno and
Payton Bergmann were up 4-3 at No. 3 doubles before Elvira Sholles and Antonia Moberg won five straight sets to take the match at 8-4. Julia Puckhaber and Laura Winter took care of Bolivar and
Karina Kotova at No. 2 doubles 8-3.
Bolivar was the only player to score a win in singles as she knocked off Sholles at No. 3, 7-5, 7-5. No. 29 Amanda Moberg outlasted No. 49 Andrianova, 6-4, 6-3. Moreno quickly took the first set 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, but No. 43 Puckhaber won the next two sets 6-1, 6-2. Tornero knocked off Shipilova in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Kotova dropped her first set to Antonia Moberg 6-3, but bounced back to win the second 6-3. Moberg put it away though 6-1 in the final set.
Kimberly Wiedemann led in the first set 4-3 over Winter, but Winter won three straight games to take the first set 6-4. Wiedemann was also up 5-4 in the second set, when she rolled her left ankle and had to retire from the match.
The Crimson Storm will now play at Central Oklahoma Saturday at 11 a.m.
