Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Momentum plays a big part in a winning streak and there's not another team in the Great American Conference with as much momentum as Southern Nazarene right now as SNU won its eighth straight with an 87-81 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Crimson Storm (16-9, 13-6 GAC) withstood every run the Savage Storm made in the second as four players for SNU scored in double figures.
Oumoul Thiam led the way with 21 points as the senior went 5-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range. Just minutes into the game, the senior broke the Great American Conference record for points scored in a single season as she became the first player in GAC history to score 500 points. She also was perfect at the line hitting all eight attempts.
Aminata Fall recorded her sixth straight double-double with 19 points and 22 rebounds. Over the past six games the sophomore is averaging 18.3 points and 18 rebounds a game.
Annie Kassongo also added 19 points and eight rebounds along with four assists and two blocks as she went 7-for-9 from the field and 5-for-7 at the charity stripe.
Samantha O'Shields also scored a season-high 15 points as she buried four 3-pointers on the night as well.
Despite turning it over twice as many times as SOSU, the Crimson Storm held the Savage Storm to just 33.8 percent shooting from the field. SNU shot 40.8 percent from the field and went 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) from downtown. Southeastern also went 12-for-19 from outside the perimeter.
SNU led by as much as 14 in the first half at 29-15, but SOSU went on an 11-3 run to cut it to 32-26 with 6:34 left in the first half. The Storm stretched it back to 13 at 44-31 before taking a 46-37 lead into the half. The Savage Storm kept chipping away at the lead and got it to one at 71-70 with 6:14 left after a 10-2 run and were within one again at 74-73, but SNU answered seven straight and never gave up the lead.
The Crimson Storm now look to close out the season with its ninth straight win as they head to Northwestern Oklahoma State, Saturday, for a 2 p.m. game.
