Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene picked up right where it left off last season as the Storm dominated York College in a 76-57 route on homecoming.
Â
Callee Cox and
Kristin Milster each scored career-highs. Milster dropped 17 points and recorded seven rebounds while Cox scored 17 points as well. Fifteen of Cox's points came in the second half as she went 3-for-7 from behind the arc.
Â
"Those two (Cox and Milster) are going to have to step up," said Head Coach
Derek Dorris. "We are looking for that third scorer and Callee played well tonight. Hopefully night in and night out Callee can be that third option."
Â
Southern Nazarene (1-0) led the entire game as the Panthers couldn't find an answer for
Aminata Fall and Milster. The Storm had a 4-2 first half lead until the 17:22 mark when Milster hit a three to spark a 17-6 run that gave the Storm a 23-8 advantage. SNU never allowed the Panthers to get into a rhythm offensively and had a 32-19 halftime advantage. York (1-2) shot just 17.5 percent in the first half and was 0-for-10 from the three-point line. The Storm shot 38.2 percent from the field but shot 80 percent from the charity stripe. Fall had four blocks in the first half.
Â
"She (Fall) affects the defensive side of the ball tremendously," said Dorris. "She is able to clean a lot of stuff up on the backside and if we get beat on a straight line drive she is always there. In the second half they tried to pull her away from the bucket, and I think that's what a lot of teams will start doing so we have to figure out how to combat that."
Â
The Storm never allowed the Panthers to get any momentum going in the second half. SNU limited the Panthers to just 34 percent shooting from the field in the half while the Storm shot 48.6 percent. Southern Nazarene shot dramatically better from the three-point line in the second half going 4-for-9 shooting 44 percent.
Â
Fall finished with 17 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and had five blocked shots. Freshman
Olivia Chapman was an efficient 4-for-7 from the field scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds in her SNU debut.
Â
"She (Chapman) showed her athleticism," said Dorris. "We have yet to scratch the surface of what she can do. We brought her in for her athleticism and when I was recruiting her and watching film of her, that is what jumped off the tape to me."
Â
York only shot 34 percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over ten times. The Storm shot 48 percent from the field and scored 29 points off the bench.

Next SNU will travel to former Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Christian, Tuesday, for 5:30 p.m. tip.
