Box Score OLATHE, Kan. — A slow start to the game turned into a quick second half burst as Southern Nazarene pulled away from Trevecca Nazarene in the final 10 minutes to win 66-54.
The Crimson Storm (2-1), who had not played in over a week, struggled from the field in the first half, but were down just three points at intermission thanks to just three turnovers. SNU trailed just 31-28 at the break and then turned up the defensive pressure and started finding the bottom of the net.
Southern Nazarene forced 15 TNU turnovers and held the Trojans (1-5) to just 25 percent shooting in the second half.
Ryan Aaron and
Tyrone Lyons combined for 35 points as Aaron scored a game-high 18.
Tyrone Lyons scored a career-high 17 points along with eight rebounds. Aaron went 6-for-12 from the field and 5-for-6 at the line. Lyons was 7-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 at the charity stripe.
Brady Burford also chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Crimson Storm now get set to play the NAIA's No. 16 MidAmerica Nazarene in the championship game of the Thanksgiving Nazarene Classic. SNU has won the past two and has reached the championship game in each of the past four seasons. The Storm have won five straight games in the classic and are 6-1 all time. The Storm and Pioneers are set to tip at 4 p.m.
