Fort Smith Sweeps Storm

Southern Nazarene drops first home match of the year

The Crimson Storm get back into GAC play Friday.
Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Natalia Oliveira had 11 kills for Southern Nazarene in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) loss to Arkansas-Fort Smith.
 
The Crimson Storm (8-13) dropped its fourth straight match and first at home this season.
 
Southern Nazarene struggled with the Lady Lions' (14-2) block as well as hitters all night as UAFS hit .301 (44-10-113) and had nine blocks. Jordan Picket and Heidi Lucks picked apart the Storm left and right. Picket finished with 15 kills while Luks had 10 kills and seven blocks.
 
Oliveira finished with 11 kills and nine digs while Ellen Martin and Jamie Hope each had six kills. Hope also had 13 digs and pair of blocks. Taylor Chase notched a double-double with 26 digs and 12 digs and added a trio of blocks as well. Kaitlyn Belanger also had nine digs.
 
Arkansas-Fort Smith held Southern Nazarene to a .118 clip in the first set as the Lady Lions hit .405. The Crimson Storm scored the first three points of the set, but UAFS scored the next seven and controlled the set from there. The second set nearly mirrored the first as the Lady Lions hit .314 while SNU hit .075. UAFS jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never trailed from that point. The Crimson Storm closed it to 22-19 late, but the Lady Lions closed out the set with three straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
It didn't take long for the Lady Lions to put the Storm away in the final set as they jumped out to a 13-5 lead and cruised from there.
 
Southern Nazarene now hits the road and will play at Arkansas Tech, Friday, at 6 p.m. for a GAC contest.
