SHAWNEE, Okla. — Jon West scored a career-high 23 points for No. 12 Southern Nazarene in a 79-68 loss to Saint Gregory's.
West shot 50 percent from the field going 8-for-16 and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range. He was also 4-for-4 at the free-throw line and pulled in five rebounds.
The Crimson Storm (12-4, 5-3 SAC) shot 49.1 percent from the field going 27-for-55, but allowed SGU to fire almost 60 percent. The Cavaliers shot 25-for-43 from the field and buried six 3-pointers. Four of those treys came from Fayzon Richey who went 11-for-16 from the field and 4-for-6 from 3-point range. He also hit 12 of his 13 attempts from the charity stripe and finished with a game-high 38 points.
Daniel White added 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting and chipped in with six rebounds and three assists. Aaron Jones had a career-high 14 points and had three of SNU six 3-pointers.
SNU held its biggest lead of the game of six twice and were up 24-18 with 5:15 left to play, but Saint Gregory's closed the opening stanza with a 17-4 run to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room. The Cavaliers pushed the lead to 47-34 early in the second half before back-to-back 3-pointers by Jones and West cut the lead back to seven.
SGU then held a 55-46 lead with 9:13 to play when Jones buried another trey that sparked an 11-1 run as SNU cut it to two at 57-55 with 5:49 to play. The Storm cut the deficit to two three more times with the final coming at 66-64 after another West three, but that was as close as SNU came. SGU closed the game on a 13-4 run and put it away.
SNU will now host No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist, Saturday, at 5 p.m.
