OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — One down, three to go. No. 23 Southern Nazarene had its best offensive performance in over two weeks as the Crimson Storm routed Oklahoma Christian, 70-46, as SNU picked up the first of four straight games on the road.
The Storm (21-5, 15-3 SAC) had three players in double figures, two of which were from the bench, and all but one player who played scored. Jamie Bottger and Ashley Mantooth both scored a team-high 12 points. Bottger went 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-5 from 3-point range. Mantooth missed just one shot going 6-for-7 from the field and she pulled down four rebounds as well. Kristin Millster also scored 11 points and buried all three treys she attempted. She added six boards and three assists as well.
Logan Martin scored nine points to go with her five assists and three rebound while Abbey Marra nearly had another double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds. Marsha Durr also had eight points going 3-for-4 from the field and hit both treys she shot.
After not getting a point off the bench, Thursday, against Northwestern, SNU's bench outscored OC's reserves 36-12 and the Storm dominated the paint with 34 points compared to just 22 from the Lady Eagles. SNU also scored 13 points off of 19 OC turnovers.
The Crimson Storm hit eight 3-poitners, going 8-for-18 from the field. Coming into the game, SNU had shot just 7-for-39 in the previous three games. SNU shot 42 percent (29-69) from the field. SNU also out rebounded OC, 45-34.
SNU held OC to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field and 23.5 percent from beyond the arc.
The Crimson Storm led from wire-to-wire and began to open up the game late in the first half. Leading 32-25 with 3:09 left in the first, Milster nailed a trey before Martin and Marra hit back-to-back shots to extend the lead to 39-25 at the half. The Storm completed the 16-2 run by scoring nine of the first 11 points in the second half to take a 48-29 lead. SNU took its biggest lead of the game with 11:43 left at 58-31 on a Mantooth bucket in the paint. SNU cruised from there.
The Crimson Storm now head to Rogers State, Thursday, for a 6 p.m. SAC game.
