Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Abbey Marra notched her fourth double-double of the year, scoring a season-high 22 points and adding 11 rebounds as No. 15 Southern Nazarene dropped an 81-64 decision to No. 17 Lubbock Christian.
The Crimson Storm (8-4, 2-2 SAC) shot just 32.4 percent (23-71) from the field while the Lady Chaps (7-3, 4-0 SAC) lit up the nets by draining eight 3-pointers. LCU shot 45.8 percent from the field and were 8-for-19 from beyond the arc.
LCU had five different players in double figures as Emily Atkins scored a team high 20.
Oumoul Thiam was the only other Crimson Storm player in double figures with 15 points as she added five assists and two rebounds. SNU had seven other players not at least two points.
The Crimson Storm got hit in the mouth early when LCUY went on a 23-5 run after Thiam buried a game-opening trey. The Lady Chaps held a double-digit lead for most of the first half and were up 36-24 with 2:22 left in the first when the Storm went on a late run to cut it to 36-30 with 38 seconds left. LCU got a last second bucket to take a 38-30 lead into the half, but SNU scored the first six points out of the gate to make it a two-point game.
Southern Nazarene closed the gap to one on four different occasions and were down just 51-50 with 11:18 left, but never took the lead. Marra tried to keep the Storm in the game late when she hit back-to-back buckets to make it a 65-58 game and drained a pair of free throws, as she was 6-for-7 from the line, to make it a 68-60 game with 4:39 left.
LCU though put the game away as it closed the game with a 13-2 run to take an 81-62 lead with just 14 seconds remaining.
SNU now has just one day of practice before it hosts Wayland Baptist, Monday, for a 1 p.m. Sooner Athletic Conference contest.
