SNU sets school record for blocks in a game

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene set a school single-game record for blocks with 12 in a 77-31 win over Bethel (Kan.) in the first game of the SCU Classic played at Southwestern Christian.

Daniel White scored a game-high 21 points and added four rebounds for the Crimson Storm (7-2) as he went 8-for-11 from the field and hit all three 3-pointers he attempted. SNU moved to 3-0 on a neutral court and four different players in double figures and 10 different players all hit at least one field goal.

SNU lit up the nets in the first half and no one was as hot as Horace McGloster in the first 20 minutes. The senior hit his first six shots in the first half with two being treys as he notched 15 points. McGloster added five rebounds, three blocks and two assists before the night was over.


The Storm shot 66.7 percent (18-27) from the field and hit 62.5 percent (5-8) from 3-point range in the first half. SNU still finished above 50 percent from the field going 32-for-58 and drained seven treys in all.

Tyrone Lyons tied the school record for most blocks in a single-game with five. Lyons added 10 points off the bench and was just one rebound away from recording a double-double with nine. Ryan Aaron also had 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.

SNU allowed just six points in the paint while scoring 42 of its own in the paint. The Storm also forced 20 turnovers and scored a point per turnover while the Storm gave up just 10 turnovers itself.

It was a run an gun game from the opening tip for SNU. The Storm opened the game with a 21-3 run that saw three 3-pointers in the first 6:30 of play. Two came from the hand of McGloster who had eight points in the first six minutes of play.

Bethel kept the game under 20 until McGloster started 13-0 for SNU to close out the half with a 44-13 lead. SNU opened the second half the way it closed the first with an 11-2 lead to jump out to a 55-15 advantage and cruised from that point on.

SNU will now get set to play Kansas Wesleyan, Saturday, at 3 p.m.
