CHICKASHA, Okla. — The first five minutes of the second half set the tone for No. 16 Southern Nazarene in a 56-41 win over Science & Arts, Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Storm (6-3, 2-1 SAC) opened the second half with a 17-5 run and ran away with the game from that point on.
SNU trailed by as much as five in the first half and were down 15-10 midway through the first half when the Storm went on a 9-0 run to take a 19-15 lead and carried a 25-21 lead into the half. Logan Martin scored the first five points of the half with a layup and a trey as the SNU defense gave up just three field goals in the first 10 minutes.
The Storm led 42-26 with 12:28 left in the second half and held a 49-32 lead, before USAO closed it to 49-36 with 3:57 remaining. The Storm though got a 3-pointer from Martin and an Oumoul Thiam layup helped begin to put the game away.
Martin led the way for the Crimson Storm with a season-high 23 points as she went 7-for-17 from the floor and 4-for-7 from 3-point range. The senior scored 16 in the second half with three from beyond the arc. She also added five assists and two rebounds. Abbey Marra notched her second double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds with five boards coming on the offensive end. Those 12 points pushed Marra over 1,000 points for her career as she became the 27th player in school history to score 1,000 points. Thiam also had 10 points.
The Storm shot 35.6 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from beyond the arc, but forced 26 turnovers and scored 28 points off of those turnovers. SNU also dominated the Lady Drovers in the paint with 30 in the lane compared to 12 from USAO.
SNU will now take a couple of weeks off for the Christmas break and will return for the Crimson Storm Classic, Dec. 28-29.
