Crimson Storm Dominate Day One at Drury Invitational

Southern Nazarene opens the 2026 season with back to back sweeps

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Crimson Storm opened their 2026 campaign in dominant fashion at the Drury Invitational. Southern Nazarene captured victories over Texas A&M International and host Drury to start the season undefeated.

Game 1

Southern Nazarene (2-0) started strong, sweeping Texas A&M International (0-1) 3-0 in its first match of the day in Springfield.

The Crimson Storm hit .363 as a team and controlled the match from the service line to secure the season-opening win over the Dustdevils, winning by scores of 25-23, 25-15, and 25-18.

SNU was paced by Kate Wright, who led all hitters with 16 kills on the day to go along with two service aces and 10 digs for a double-double. Rayanna Mauldin added 11 kills, while Riley Richardson chipped in six kills.

Setter Emma Grace Moddelmog ran the offense with 35 assists and made her impact all over the floor, adding four aces to lead the Storm, and 10 digs. Sydney Marquez anchored the back row with a match-high 12 digs.

The Storm were tested early in set one, with TAMIU keeping it close. SNU countered with 17 kills behind Wright and Mauldin to edge out the Dustdevils 25-23.

Southern Nazarene found its rhythm in set two, hitting .375 as a team with 15 kills and just three errors. The Storm pulled away midway through the set and held TAMIU to just eight kills to take it 25-15.

SNU was at its most efficient in the third set, closing the sweep with a .480 hitting percentage on 13 kills and only one error. The Crimson Storm's serve continued to apply pressure with 11 aces on the match, helping seal the final frame 25-18.

Game 2

The Crimson Storm closed out the opening day of the Drury Invitational in dominant fashion, sweeping host Drury 3-0 Friday evening.

SNU hit .320 for the match and never let the Panthers (1-1) find a rhythm, taking the match 25-21, 25-23, 26-24.

Southern Nazarene came out firing in the first set. The Storm posted 17 kills on 31 swings with just three errors to hit .452 as a team. 

The second frame was tighter, but the Storm again found answers late. Mauldin and Wright continued to produce on the outside, while Moddelmog kept the offense balanced. SNU finished with 18 kills in the set to take a 2-0 lead.

Drury pushed hardest in the third set. The Panthers put up 17 kills and forced extra points, but the Crimson Storm closed it out 26-24 to secure the sweep.

Mauldin paced SNU with a match-high 17 kills on top of two aces and two blocks. Wright added 12 kills, and Richardson chipped in nine. Moddelmog directed the offense with 37 assists and added 13 digs for a double-double, while Marquez anchored the back row once again with a match-high 19 digs.

The Crimson Storm will conclude their road trip on Saturday, August 29 taking on Newman at 11:00 am followed by their final contest against Minot State at 3:00 pm.
