Johansen Named Director of SNU Esports

BETHANY, Okla. – Southern Nazarene University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Danny Thomason has announced the hiring of Cody Johansen as the next head coach and director of the SNU Esports program.

"We are excited to have someone of Cody's experience lead our rapidly growing SNU Esports program," said Thomason.

Cody joins the Crimson Storm after serving one year as the Esports Director at Brewton-Parker Christian University. Before his time at Brewton-Parker, he spent two years as a Graduate Assistant at his alma mater, Ottawa University.

As a coach, he has quickly built an impressive resume. His Rocket League team ranked as high as No. 21 in the nation power rankings, won the Queen City Clash Invitational, and finished 4th in the Southern Esports League. His NBA 2K squad finished second in the NECC and fourth in the UPA, while his League of Legends team qualified for NACE Nationals.

As a player, he competed for three years at Ottawa University in Kansas, where he was a member of the Call of Duty and Halo teams.

Assistant Athletic Director of Operations, Philip Younts, said, "I am excited to work hand-in-hand with Cody as we continue to build on the foundation of SNU Esports and further expand our Esports facility. His understanding of the Esports landscape will be a tremendous asset as we look to develop something special for our players."

Cody is married to his wife, Zoie Johansen.
