Crimson Storm Swept by East Central in Friday Doubleheader

Southern Nazarene drops both games despite early leads and strong offensive efforts at home

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm finished up their series with East Central on Friday afternoon, dropping both games of the doubleheader as they were swept by ECU.

Game 1
Southern Nazarene (6-30, 1-23 GAC) battled throughout the first game of the doubleheader but could not hold off a late push from East Central (15-20, 12-12 GAC), falling 10-4.

The Storm got on the board first in the second inning when a sacrifice fly from Cade Ross brought home Aiden McCullough for a 1-0 lead. After ECU tied things up in the third, SNU answered right back in the fourth as Ross delivered an RBI double to put the Storm back in front, 2-1.

East Central responded in the fifth with a two-run home run to take a 3-2 lead, but Southern Nazarene evened things up in the bottom half of the inning when Braden Pingel drove in Blake Brinkmeyer to make it 3-3.

The game stayed tight until the seventh inning when ECU took advantage of a couple of errors and timely hits to score three runs and jump ahead 6-3. The Storm picked up one more run in the eighth, but East Central pulled away in the ninth with a four-run inning to secure the 10-4 win.

Cade Ross led the Storm with two hits and two RBIs, while Brinkmeyer and James Bodine each added multiple hits.

Game 2
In the series finale, Southern Nazarene jumped out to a strong start but could not hold off another big inning from East Central, falling 14-10.

ECU struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning, but the Storm answered quickly. SNU scored two runs in the first and exploded for five more in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kane Springer and a two-run shot from Josh Bay to take a 7-1 lead.

East Central responded in a big way in the third inning, putting up nine runs to take a 10-7 lead and shift the momentum.

Southern Nazarene battled back in the fifth, capitalizing on ECU errors to tie the game at 10-10. However, East Central delivered the final blow in the sixth with a four-run inning, including a grand slam, to regain control at 14-10.

The Storm were unable to answer down the stretch as ECU held on to complete the sweep.

Blake Brinkmeyer led the offense with three runs scored and two doubles, while Kane Springer and Josh Bay each homered and drove in multiple runs. James Bodine added three hits in the effort.
