Crimson Storm Drops Series Opener to East Central

SNU falls 16-13 in back-and-forth game at Feland Field

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene opened its series against East Central Thursday afternoon at Feland Field but came up short in a 16-13 loss in a back-and-forth contest.

The Crimson Storm (6-28, 1-21 GAC) battled throughout, answering early pressure from East Central (13-20, 10-12 GAC). After the Tigers struck first in the second inning, SNU responded with a sacrifice fly from Braydan Salinas to tie the game at 1-1. Kane Springer added to the effort in the third with a solo home run, briefly knotting the score once again.

East Central slowly built momentum over the middle innings, stretching its lead to 6-2 through six innings. Despite the deficit, Southern Nazarene refused to back down.

The Storm delivered a breakout inning in the seventh, erupting for six runs to flip the game. RBI hits from Blake Brinkmeyer, James Bodine, Braden Pingel, and Aiden McCullough fueled the rally as SNU surged in front 8-6 and seized control of the momentum.

The Tigers answered in the top of the eighth, stringing together timely hits and taking advantage of free passes to plate seven runs and regain the lead. East Central added three more in the ninth to extend its advantage.

Southern Nazarene made a late push in the bottom of the ninth as Cade Ross launched a three-run home run to cut into the deficit, but the comeback attempt fell short as East Central held on.

Ross paced the offense with three RBIs, while Springer added a home run and two RBIs. Pingel and Brinkmeyer each delivered key contributions during the Storm's seventh-inning surge.
