SNU Drops Doubleheader to Harding

Harding’s offense powers past SNU in doubleheader sweep

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene opened its three-game series against Harding University with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon, dropping both games to the Bisons 19-7 and 17-3.

Game 1

Southern Nazarene (9-35, 1-28 GAC) battled early but could not keep pace with Harding (25-16, 18-10 GAC) as the Bisons used a big middle stretch to pull away for a 19-7 win.

Harding struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning and added two more runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. The Bisons extended it to 4-0 in the third before the Storm got on the board. Blake Brinkmeyer doubled and later scored on a double from Josh Bay to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The game turned in the fourth inning when Harding erupted for seven runs to take control at 11-1. SNU answered with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by RBI hits from Dominic Garcia, Cade Ross, and Josh Bay to make it 11-4.

Southern Nazarene continued to fight in the fifth as Ross launched a three-run home run to bring the Storm within 13-7, but that would be as close as they would get. Harding added runs late and held SNU scoreless over the final three innings to secure the 19-7 victory.

Ross led the Storm with four RBIs, while Bay added two hits and two RBIs. Brinkmeyer and Aiden McCullough each recorded multiple hits in the loss.

Game 2

In game two, Southern Nazarene showed some early life but could not keep up with another strong offensive performance from Harding, falling 17-3.

The Storm struck first in the second inning when Dominic Garcia delivered an RBI double to score James Bodine for a 1-0 lead. Harding answered in the third with two runs to take a 2-1 advantage.

SNU tied the game in the bottom of the third as Josh Bay came around to score on an RBI single from Blake Brinkmeyer, making it 2-2.

The game shifted in the fifth inning when Harding hit three home runs in the frame and scored five runs to jump ahead 7-2. Bay responded with a solo home run in the bottom half to cut it to 7-3, but the Bisons continued to add on.

Harding tacked on another run in the sixth before breaking things open in the seventh with a nine-run inning to put the game out of reach and complete the 17-3 win.

Bay led the Storm with a home run, while Brinkmeyer and Garcia each drove in a run.
