Crimson Storm Takes Midweek Win Over Rangers

Crimson Storm score early and ride strong pitching to midweek win

ENID, Okla. - Southern Nazarene delivered a strong all-around performance in their midweek non-conference matchup on Tuesday night, defeating Northwestern Oklahoma State, 6-1.

Southern Nazarene (9-33, 1-26 GAC) wasted no time jumping out in front, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. James Bodine provided the early spark with a three-run home run to left field, scoring Josh Bay and Blake Brinkmeyer to give the Crimson Storm a quick 3-0 lead.

SNU added to its advantage in the third inning when Kane Springer drove in Cade Ross with an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0.

Northwestern Oklahoma State (22-22, 13-14 GAC) answered in the fourth, using an RBI groundout to get on the board and cut the deficit to 4-1, but that would be all the offense the Rangers could generate.

Southern Nazarene created some separation late in the game in the seventh inning. Braden Pingel came through with a clutch two-run single to score Springer and Bodine, pushing the lead to 6-1.

From there, the Storm bullpen shut the door. Rylan Eccles delivered three scoreless innings with four strikeouts, while Jaxon Gless and Caleb Eakle combined to close out the final frames and secure the victory.

At the plate, Pingel led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Bodine added three RBIs, while Ross and Bay each recorded multi-hit performances in the win.  Justin Trucks earned the win for the Storm after one inning of work in the fourth.
