Southern Nazarene Takes Series Over SWOSU

Crimson Storm Softball wins the rubber match to claim the series over the Bulldogs

BETHANY, Okla. – Southern Nazarene closed out its conference series with a strong performance in the circle Sunday afternoon, defeating the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs 2-0 to secure the rubber match at home.

The Crimson Storm (9-14, 4-5 GAC) leaned on a dominant outing from Baylee Sales, who tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Southern Nazarene to the victory over SWOSU (4-18, 1-8 GAC). Sales scattered just three hits across seven innings while striking out five and working around four walks to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Southern Nazarene broke through in the second inning to take the early lead. After Kira Taber singled and Britlyn Tripp entered as a pinch runner, Quinlyn Johnson moved her into scoring position with a groundout. Ella Sottile then delivered with a single through the right side that brought Tripp home to give the Storm a 1-0 advantage.

The Storm added another run in the fourth inning. Johnson led off with a double and later came around to score when Adyson Gaddis roped a double to right field, extending the lead to 2-0.

That was more than enough support for Sales, who worked out of several tight situations. The Bulldogs threatened in the third inning by loading the bases with one out, but Sales escaped the jam with a flyout to keep SWOSU off the board.

Johnson paced the Storm offensively with two hits, while Eden Anderson also recorded a pair of hits in the contest. Sottile and Gaddis each drove in a run as SNU finished with eight hits on the afternoon.

Sales sealed the victory in the seventh, retiring two of the final three hitters after a one-out single to lock down the shutout and secure the series win for the Crimson Storm.
