Crimson Storm Earn Win Over Southeastern Oklahoma State

Crimson Storm rally from early deficit to secure victory

DURANT, Okla. - The Crimson Storm powered through a midweek non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon, outlasting Southeastern Oklahoma in a high-scoring battle, 19-15.

Southern Nazarene (6-27,1-20 GAC) found itself in an early hole as Southeastern Oklahoma State (20-14, 12-9 GAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third.

SNU got on the board in the fourth inning when James Bodine and Aiden McCullough each drove in runs to tie things briefly at 2-2 before Southeastern answered right back using a big fourth and fifth inning to extend their advantage to 12-3.

After falling behind by nine, the Crimson Storm exploded in the sixth inning, putting together an eight-run frame to completely flip the momentum. McCullough highlighted the inning with a two-run double, while Blake Brinkmeyer delivered a clutch two-run double as SNU cut the deficit to 12-11.

Southern Nazarene kept the pressure on in the seventh as Josh Bay and Brinkmeyer each launched solo home runs to give the Storm their first lead of the game at 13-12.

Southeastern responded once again in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs to reclaim a 14-13 advantage, setting up a dramatic finish.

After a quiet eighth inning, the Storm saved their biggest punch for last.

In the ninth, SNU erupted for six runs to take control for good. Brinkmeyer delivered the decisive blow with a go-ahead grand slam to right center, giving the Storm a 17-14 lead. The offense kept rolling as Maikah Gonzalez and Braydan Salinas each added RBI hits to stretch the lead to 19-14.

Southeastern managed to push one run across in the bottom of the ninth, but Caleb Eakle shut the door to secure the win.

Brinkmeyer led the way with a monster performance, driving in seven runs on three hits, including two home runs. Bay added a huge day at the plate as well with three hits, including two home runs and three RBIs. James Bodine went 4-for-5 with four runs scored. McCullough also contributed four RBIs in the win.

The Crimson Storm will aim to build on their momentum as they jump back into conference play, hosting East Central on Thursday, April 2 at 2:00 pm for a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Friday, April 3 beginning at 12:00 pm.
