Crimson Storm Swept in Alva

Southern Nazarene drops both games as Northwestern Oklahoma State pulls away with big innings

ALVA, Okla. - Southern Nazarene wrapped up its conference series against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon, as the Rangers completed the sweep over the Crimson Storm.

Game 1
Southern Nazarene (5-26, 1-20 GAC) came out strong to start striking first in the opening inning. Josh Bay reached with a single and later came around to score on an RBI knock from Blake Brinkmeyer, giving the Storm an early 1-0 lead.

That momentum didn't last long, though, as Northwestern Oklahoma State (18-18, 9-12 GAC) answered in the second and never looked back. The Rangers put up two runs in the second and added two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead.

Things got away from SNU in the fourth inning, where Northwestern used a big six-run frame to break the game open. The Rangers continued to add on late, scoring in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure a 19-1 win.

The Storm finished with four hits in the contest, with Brinkmeyer driving in the lone run.

Game 2
In game two, Southern Nazarene held things scoreless through the first two innings before Northwestern put together another big inning.

The Rangers broke it open in the third, scoring eight runs to take control early. SNU answered in the fourth when Josh Bay launched a solo home run to get the Storm on the board.

Southern Nazarene added another run in the sixth inning. Cade Ross doubled to lead things off and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Bay to cut into the deficit.

Despite the effort, Northwestern continued to add insurance runs in the middle innings, handing SNU a 14-2 loss and completing the series sweep.

The Storm totaled five hits in game two, with Ross, Kane Springer, Josh Bay, and James Bodine each recording hits.
