BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm showed off the offense as they hosted the Newman Jets for a midweek non-conference doubleheader. SNU tacked on the runs, defeating Newman twice in run-rule fashion to claim the midweek sweep.
Game 1
Southern Nazarene (15-18, 7-8 GAC) opened its matchup against Newman (4-22, 0-4 MIAA) in dominant fashion, rolling to an 8-0 victory behind a dominant performance in the circle from Baylee Sales.
Sales was untouchable from start to finish, tossing a complete-game no-hitter to lead the Crimson Storm. She kept the Jets off balance all afternoon, allowing no hits while working efficiently through five innings to secure the shutout victory.
The Storm offense backed her up with some offensive sparks, breaking things open in the third. Kira Taber delivered a clutch two-run double to get SNU on the board, while additional runs came across on a Newman error and an RBI single from Kelsi Hilton to make it 4-0.
Southern Nazarene kept the pressure on in the fourth inning, adding four more runs. Kristen Mullendore highlighted the frame with a two-run double, and Macy Stewart added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead. Eden Anderson capped the scoring with an RBI double to push the advantage to 8-0.
Mullendore led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Taber and Anderson also contributed key extra-base hits as the Storm tallied nine hits in the win.
Game 2
The Crimson Storm struck first in the opening inning as Eden Anderson delivered an RBI single to score Quinlyn Johnson. SNU added another run in the second on an RBI knock from Ciena Perez to take an early 2-0 lead.
Newman answered in the top of the third, capitalizing on a pair of SNU errors to plate four runs and briefly take a 4-2 advantage. The Storm wasted no time responding.
Southern Nazarene erupted for 10 runs in the bottom half of the third, sending the lineup around and flipping the game completely. Presley Brott got things started with an RBI single, and the Storm continued to apply pressure on the basepaths, including Bailey Nettles stealing home. Ella Sottile brought a run home on a squeeze bunt, while Perez drove in another run later in the inning.
Natalie Gowan delivered the biggest swing of the frame, launching a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead. Taber and Anderson each added RBI hits, and Brott capped the scoring with an RBI double as SNU built a commanding 12-4 lead.
Quinlyn Johnson led the way on the bases, scoring three runs, while Anderson finished with a team-high three RBIs. Brott and Perez each added multiple RBIs as the Storm totaled 11 hits in the win.
Olivia Hernandez earned the victory in the circle for Southern Nazarene, helping the Storm secure the sweep and carry strong momentum forward.
