Crimson Storm Unable to Overcome the Reddies

SNU Softball drops the final two games at Henderson State as the Reddies claim the sweep

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Southern Nazarene dropped the final two games in their series at Henderson State Saturday afternoon. The Reddies offense prevailed as the Crimson Storm struggled to find their rhythm dropping the final contests 6-3 and 6-2.

Game 1

The Reddies (13-16, 6-9 GAC) struck quickly in the bottom of the first, plating three runs on three hits to put SNU (13-18, 7-8 GAC) in an early hole. A two-run double followed by an RBI single gave Henderson State a 3-0 advantage before the Storm could settle in.

Southern Nazarene answered right back in the second inning with a three-run frame of its own. Capitalizing on a Henderson State error and aggressive baserunning. Abby Wood drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Kelsi Hilton added a sacrifice fly to even things up.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as Henderson State responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Reddies pushed across three more runs, highlighted by a two-run double, to reclaim the lead at 6-3.

From there, the Crimson Storm struggled to generate offense. SNU managed just four hits in the contest, with Kristen Mullendore leading the way with a double and a run scored. Ciena Perez and Adyson Gaddis each added a hit, but the Storm were unable to string together a late rally.

In the circle, Jentry Henderson provided a bright spot in relief, keeping Henderson State scoreless over the final 4.1 innings while allowing just one hit.

Game 2

The Crimson Storm struck first in the opening inning thanks to a solo shot from Eden Anderson, who sent a ball over the left field wall to give SNU an early 1-0 advantage.

Henderson State quickly answered in the bottom half with a three-run homer to take a 3-1 lead, swinging the momentum back in favor of the home team.

Southern Nazarene chipped away in the second inning as Mullendore delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Bailey Nettles and trimming the deficit to 3-2. However, that would be as close as the Storm would get.

The Reddies responded once again in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a pair of defensive miscues to plate two unearned runs before adding another run in the third to extend the lead to 6-2.

Despite putting runners on, SNU struggled to find timely hits, finishing with four hits on the afternoon. Anderson and Nettles each recorded hits.
