Crimson Storm Drop Midweek Matchup to Oklahoma City University

Late push not enough as SNU drops 18-10 at Feland Field

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm took on Oklahoma City University in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon, falling in a high-scoring game at home, 18-10.

Southern Nazarene (5-20, 1-14 GAC) found themselves in an early hole after Oklahoma City (10-17, 6-6 SAC) scored five runs in the opening inning and added another in the second to take a quick 6-1 lead.

The Storm got on the board in the first with an RBI single from Blake Brinkmeyer, then chipped away again in the fourth when Dominic Garcia launched a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-3.

The Stars responded with a three-run fifth and added another in the sixth to stretch the lead to 11-3, keeping control through the middle innings.

The Crimson Storm made things interesting in the seventh. Cade Ross led off with a solo home run before Braden Pingel delivered a two-run double to highlight a four-run inning that pulled the Storm within 11-7.

OCU answered in a big way in the ninth, scoring seven runs, including a three-run homer, to push the game out of reach at 18-7.

Southern Nazarene continued to fight late, plating three runs in the bottom of the ninth behind hits from Aiden McCullough, Quintin Diaz, and Garcia to bring the final score to 18-10.

Garcia led the Storm at the plate with three hits and four RBIs, while Ross added two hits including a home run. Pingel also drove in two runs, and Kane Springer recorded a pair of hits in the effort.

The Crimson Storm will turn their attention back to conference play as they host Henderson State the two teams are set to play a doubleheader Friday, March 20 starting at 12:00 pm and a single game on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 pm.
