Crimson Storm Come Up Short Against Henderson State

SNU opens series with doubleheader losses to Reddies

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted Henderson State at Feland Field to open a three-game series on Friday afternoon. Southern Nazarene dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Reddies.

Game 1
Southern Nazarene (5-22, 1-16 GAC) fell behind early, but used a big second inning to take control before Henderson State (15-11, 7-10 GAC) rallied late to claim a 15-11 win.

The Reddies struck first in the opening inning, but SNU answered in a big way in the bottom of the second. After a walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases, Dominic Garcia delivered a two-RBI single to give the Storm the lead. Later in the inning, Kane Springer came through with the biggest swing, ripping a three-run double to clear the bases and put SNU in front 5-1.

Henderson State chipped away with runs in the third and fourth before taking the lead in the fifth with a three-run inning to go up 6-5.

The Storm responded again in the bottom half as Braden Pingel laced a two-run triple to give SNU the lead back, and Aiden McCullough followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 8-6.
The Reddies answered once more in the seventh, putting together a four-run inning to regain the lead. Henderson State added three runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to create separation.

Southern Nazarene made one last push in the eighth, scoring three runs behind RBI hits from Cade Ross, Kane Springer, and James Bodine, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Springer led the Storm offense with four RBIs, while Garcia added two RBIs. Pingel and McCullough also drove in multiple runs in the loss.

Game 2
Southern Nazarene couldn't find its rhythm at the plate in game two, falling 5-0 to Henderson State.

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings before the Reddies broke through with a solo home run in the third to take a 1-0 lead.

Henderson State added to its advantage in the fifth, using a pair of runs to extend the lead to 3-0. The Reddies put the game away in the seventh with a two-run home run to make it 5-0.
The Storm managed just two hits in the contest, coming from Aiden McCullough and Dominic Garcia.

Justin Trucks went the distance on the mound for SNU, striking out a career-high eight batters while allowing five runs in the loss.
