Southern Nazarene Bounces Back to Win Series Finale Against Ouachita Baptist

The Crimson Storm secured a 7-3 victory in the final game of the series to close the weeken

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -  Southern Nazarene concluded its weekend series against Ouachita Baptist, falling in a walk off in Game 2 before bouncing back with a strong performance in the series finale at Rab Rodgers Field.

Southern Nazarene (5-19, 1-14 GAC) resumed Game 2 on Saturday after play was suspended Friday due to a lack of daylight. SNU jumped out early and held the lead late, but Ouachita Baptist (12-11, 7-8 GAC) rallied in the final innings to secure a 7-6 walk-off victory.

The Crimson Storm struck first in the opening inning when Blake Brinkmeyer drove in Cade Ross with an RBI single to give SNU a 1-0 lead.

SNU added two more runs in the third inning as Dominic Garcia blasted a solo home run to left field before Brinkmeyer brought home another run on a sacrifice bunt to extend the advantage to 3-0.

The Tigers answered in the fourth with a three-run inning to tie the game before taking a 4-3 lead in the fifth.

Southern Nazarene responded in the sixth as Braden Pingel doubled down the line and Trevyn Stewart followed with an RBI double to even the game at 4-4.

After Ouachita regained a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a solo home run, the Storm answered again in the seventh. Josh Bay reached base before Pingel delivered a two-run single to third that scored Bay and Kane Springer to give SNU a 6-5 advantage.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run before walking it off in the eighth inning with an RBI single to claim the 7-6 victory.

Pingel led the Storm with two hits and one RBI, while Brinkmeyer drove in two runs. Dominic Garcia also added two hits and a home run in the loss.

Game 3
Southern Nazarene bounced back in the final game of the series defeating Ouachita Baptist 7-3.

Southern Nazarene used a strong pitching performance and a late offensive surge to secure their first conference win of the season against Ouachita Baptist.

The Crimson Storm broke through in the second inning when Braden Pingel doubled before Trevyn Stewart drove him home with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Cade Ross added an RBI single to push the Storm ahead 2-0.

Ouachita trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the third inning, but the Storm's starting pitcher Garrett Payne kept the Tigers off the board for several innings.

Southern Nazarene added another run in the seventh when Josh Bay delivered an RBI single to score Ryder Scheibelhut and extend the lead to 3-1.
Ouachita tied the game in the eighth inning at 3-3, setting up a dramatic ninth inning for the Storm offense.

In the top of the ninth, SNU broke the game open. James Bodine worked a walk and moved into scoring position before Dominic Garcia singled and Ross was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Bay then delivered the biggest hit of the game, driving a three-run double to center field to give the Storm a 6-3 lead. Kane Springer followed with an RBI single to push the advantage to 7-3.

Caleb Tucker closed it out on the mound in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 7-3 win and finish the series.

Bay led the way with four RBIs, while Ross recorded three hits and an RBI. Springer added two hits and an RBI as Southern Nazarene totaled 12 hits in the victory.

The Crimson Storm will return home on Tuesday, March 17 to take on Oklahoma City University at 2:00 pm.
