Crimson Storm Close Series Even with Southwest Baptist

Four straight homers power SNU in Game 1, Bearcats rally big to take Game 2 in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. -The Crimson Storm wrapped up their four-game series against Southwest Baptist Saturday at Feland Field, picking up a big win in Game 1 before falling in Game 2.

Game 1
Both teams were locked in a scoreless battle through the first four innings, with neither side able to break through early. That changed in the top of the fifth, when Southwest Baptist struck first. The Bearcats used a pair of singles to take a 2-0 lead and grab some momentum.

Southern Nazarene answered in a massive way in the bottom half of the inning. The Crimson Storm launched four home runs in a row, flipping the game on its head and turning a two run deficit into a five run lead. Josh Bay, Jaxon Gless, Kane Springer, and Braden Pingel all went deep in the inning, marking the first time since 2022 that SNU has hit four homers in a single inning.

The Storm kept the pressure on in the sixth, adding four more runs to lead, 9-2.  Bay drove in a run with a walk, and SNU took advantage of wild pitches and clutch singles from Springer and Brinkmeyer to keep the inning going.

Southwest Baptist tried to answer back in the seventh with a two run home run, trimming the deficit to 9-4, but Southern Nazarene responded again. Pingel scored on a balk in the bottom of the seventh, and the Storm added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Springer to push the lead to 11-5.

The Storm finished with 13 hits, led by a big game from Springer and Pingel, who combined for six hits and five RBIs.

Game 2
Southern Nazarene came out hot again, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second to jump out to a 10-2 lead. The Crimson Storm offense was highlighted by a grand slam from Pingel and a solo home run from Maikah Gonzalez, to build early momentum.

Southwest Baptist answered back in a big way in the third inning, putting together a nine run frame to take the lead. The Bearcats kept the pressure on over the next few innings, adding runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh to slowly pull away. Despite the strong start from SNU,
Southwest Baptist's offense proved too much down the stretch, as the Bearcats took Game 2 by a 25-10 final to close out the series.
