Crimson Storm Split Doubleheader in Home Opener Against Southwest Baptist

SNU rallies late for a 3-2 win in Game 1 before Bearcats respond with 13-7 victory in Game 2

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm opened their home slate Friday afternoon at Feland Field, hosting Southwest Baptist in their home opener. Southern Nazarene split the doubleheader, rallying late to take game one before falling in the second contest.

Game 1
Southern Nazarene wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, Josh Bay gave the Storm an early spark, blasting a solo home run to right center field to put SNU in front 1-0.

Southwest Baptist answered in the third inning, using a pair of hits and a double play to plate a run and even the score at 1-1. The Bearcats grabbed their first lead in the fifth, capitalizing on an SNU error and a timely RBI single to move ahead 2-1.

The Storm continued to battle at the plate and found their breakthrough in the bottom of the seventh. Blake Brinkmeyer and Kane Springer both reached base to set the stage for a late rally. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Cade Ross delivered a clutch two-run single to right field that scored both runners and lifted SNU to a 3-2 lead.

The Storm pitching staff shut the door from there. Lane Benevidas delivered four strong innings in relief, helping Southern Nazarene hold the Bearcats scoreless down the stretch. SNU's staff combined for 10 strikeouts as the Storm secured the 3-2 victory.

Game 2
Southern Nazarene battled throughout but couldn't hold off Southwest Baptist, falling 13-7 in game two of the doubleheader.

Southwest Baptist struck first and built an early 3-0 lead in the opening inning, taking advantage of timely hits and errors. Southern Nazarene refused to back down and responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Braden Pingel used aggressive baserunning to score before Kaden Springer lined an RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to one.

The Storm kept the momentum rolling in the second inning as Josh Bay delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game before Jaxon Gless drove in a run to give SNU a 4-3 lead.

Southwest Baptist answered in the third to regain the advantage, but Southern Nazarene responded once again. Dominic Garcia came through with a clutch squeeze bunt that brought home two runs to even the contest at 6-6.

The game remained tight until Southwest Baptist pushed across the go ahead run in the sixth inning before breaking things open with a six run seventh. Southern Nazarene added one final run in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't complete another comeback attempt.
