Southern Nazarene Drops Road Game at Arkansas Tech

Golden Suns use strong second quarter to take control in 87-51 win

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Southern Nazarene battled early but saw Arkansas Tech pull away for an 87-51 win Thursday night in Russellville. The Crimson Storm stayed close in the first quarter, but the Golden Suns used a big second quarter and strong offensive balance to separate and control the game the rest of the way.

Southern Nazarene (7-11, 7-7 GAC) got contributions from across its lineup, with Braci Nyberg scoring 8 points, Boston Berry adding 7, Shannon Burton chipping in 7, and Nessa Begay also contributing 7 on the night. The Storm continued to compete on both ends but struggled to find a consistent rhythm offensively against ATU's (15-3, 11-3 GAC)  pressure.

The Crimson Storm shot just 32.1 percent from the field and 10.0 percent from three point range, while Arkansas Tech got strong scoring from around its roster. The Golden Suns finished with 32 made field goals, knocked down 10 three pointers, and shot 92.9 percent from the free throw line in the win.

Southern Nazarene's defense created a few turnovers and the bench provided energy, but Arkansas Tech's balanced scoring and depth were too much to overcome. The Golden Suns used a strong second quarter to pull away and stayed in control the rest of the way in the 87-51 win.
