Storm Drop Series Finale to Arkansas-Monticello

Southern Nazarene battles late but falls 20–8 in final game of opening GAC series

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene closed out its opening Great American Conference series against Arkansas-Monticello Monday afternoon at Feland Field, falling 20-8 in the series finale.

Arkansas-Monticello (4-4, 3-0 GAC) jumped out early and never let up, plating four runs in the top of the first. A double down the left field line started the scoring before a two-run double to center pushed the lead to 4-0 before SNU (4-7, 0-3 GAC) could get out of the inning.

The Crimson Storm answered right away in the bottom half of the first. Josh Bay put Southern Nazarene on the board with a solo home run to left, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
UAM added to their lead in the third inning with three home runs, stretching the advantage to 9-1. The Weevils continued to apply pressure in the fifth, highlighted by a three-run homerun that made it 13-3.

Southern Nazarene showed fight in the middle innings. In the fourth, Cade Ross came around to score on a fielder's choice, and a throwing error allowed another run to cross the plate to trim the margin.

The Storm kept battling in the fifth as Blake Brinkmeyer launched a solo shot to left. Later in the inning, Dominic Garcia doubled to center to score Ross and make it 13-5.

SNU put together their biggest push in the sixth. After Aiden McCullough reached and stole second, Trevyn Stewart then delivered an RBI double to right center. Kain Springer followed with an RBI double of his own.

Ross added an RBI single to cap a three run frame and bring the Storm closer, 17-8.

Arkansas-Monticello answered again in the seventh with a two-run homerun and an RBI walk to extend the lead to 20-8, which would hold as the final.

Ross led the way offensively for Southern Nazarene with three hits and an RBI. Springer added two doubles and a RBI, while Bay and Brinkmeyer each added a homerun.

Next Up
The Crimson Storm will travel to Magnolia to take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas the two teams are set to play a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm Friday, February 20 and a single game on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 pm.
