Crimson Storm Drop Two in Magnolia

Southern Nazarene falls 9-8 in walk-off fashion and 6-5 in tight doubleheader at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm hit the road for a three game GAC series against Southern Arkansas and opened the weekend with a tough doubleheader in Magnolia. Southern Nazarene came up just short in both games, falling 9-8 in game one and 6-5 in game two.

Game 1
Southern Nazarene  (4-9, 0-5 GAC) battled all afternoon but dropped a heartbreaker to Southern Arkansas (8-5, 4-1 GAC), 9-8, in walk off fashion.

The Muleriders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but SNU answered right back in the second. A triple to left center from Aiden McCullough brought home two runs to tie things up, and Dominic Garcia followed with a squeeze bunt to give the Storm a 3-2 edge.

The Crimson Storm broke things open in the fifth when Braden Pingel led off the inning with a solo home run to left, and the Storm kept pouring it on. Cade Ross added an RBI single, McCullough doubled down the line to score another, and Braydan Salinas drove in a run as part of a five run frame that pushed the lead to 8-2.

Southern Arkansas chipped away with three runs in the fifth and tied the game in the sixth after a two-run single evened the score at 8-8.

The game stayed locked up into the ninth before the Muleriders used a late single up the middle to score the winning run, handing the Storm the 9-8 loss.

McCullough led the way offensively with a triple, a double, and three RBIs. Jaxon Gless collected three hits, while Pingel and Ross each drove in a run in the loss.

Game 2
In the nightcap, Southern Nazarene once again found itself in a tight battle but fell 6-5.

Southern Arkansas struck first in the opening inning, but the Storm answered in the fourth with a big four-run inning.  Ross delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Josh Bay followed with a bases-loaded walk to give SNU the lead. An error allowed another run to score before Pingel drew a walk with the bases loaded to cap off the rally and make it 4-1.

Southern Nazarene added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Ross to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Muleriders slowly clawed back, scoring once in the fifth and once in the sixth to cut the deficit to one. In the seventh, Southern Arkansas loaded the bases and came through with a two-run single to take a 6-5 advantage.

Next Up
The Crimson Storm will finish their series with the Muleriders on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 pm for a single game.
