Southern Nazarene unable to stop Tiger offense in Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene was unable to top a tough Ouachita Baptist offense, dropping its road contest Saturday afternoon, 49-14.

The Crimson Storm (1-5, 1-5 GAC) fell behind early and could not recover as the Tiger (4-2, 4-2 GAC) struck first just 31 seconds into the game. Tre Nichols hit Eli Holmes-Holt on a 60-yard touchdown pass at the 13:29 mark of the first quarter to make it 7-0 early.

SNU answered right back. Kaden Manuel finished a 10-play, 75-yard march with a 4-yard touchdown run to tie it at 7-7.

The Tigers took control from there. Nichols broke loose for a 41-yard touchdown run just 24 seconds later to put Ouachita back in front 14-7.

Ouachita extended the lead in the second quarter. Chris Henley, Jr. scored on a 34-yard run at 14:17 to make it 21-7. Henley then added an 11-yard touchdown run at 3:58 to push the lead to 28-7.

Ouachita added an 8-yard touchdown run from Nichols with 37 seconds left in the half to make it 35-7. The Tigers kept the pressure as Kahlil Smith returned an interception for a touchdown with 21 seconds left to push it to 42-7 at halftime.

Ouachita picked up where they left off after the break. Nichols scored again on an 8-yard run at 9:47 of the third quarter to make it 49-7.

SNU closed out the scoring late. Mikey Moreno broke a 31-yard touchdown run at 2:07 of the fourth quarter to cut into the deficit, 49-14. Southern Nazarene held Ouachtia there until the clock ran out as the Tigers took the victory in Arkadelphia.
