Storm Fall to Rangers on the Road

Southern Nazarene falls in straight sets on the road in Alva

ALVA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene hit the road on Thursday night with a tough battle against Northwestern Oklahoma State, but the Crimson Storm ultimately fell in straight sets in Alva.

The Crimson Storm (4-9, 0-2 GAC) came out strong in the opening set, trading points with the Rangers behind early kills from Kate Wright and Rayanna Mauldin. SNU held close throughout, pulling within 23-22 late, but Northwestern snuck away with the final two points to take the opener.

Set two mirrored the first, with neither team able to build a significant lead early. Wright continued to pace the offense while Brelee Mauldin spread the ball around, finding Hannah Morgan to keep the Crimson Storm within striking distance. A late Northwestern push, however, gave the Rangers just enough separation to edge out another 25-22 win.

Momentum shifted in the third set as Northwestern surged ahead early and never looked back, capitalizing on a .400 hitting percentage in the set. Despite defensive efforts from Mauldin, who led the team with 13 digs, and key blocks from Morgan and Georgia Byers, the Storm couldn't slow the Rangers' attack as they closed out the match 25-12.

Wright finished with a team-high 11 kills, followed by Mauldin's eight and Morgan's six. Brelee Mauldin posted a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs, while Sydney Marquez added nine digs of her own.
