Bison Trip Up the Crimson Storm in Conference Opener

Crimson Storm fall in three sets to Oklahoma Baptist in GAC opener

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene opened Great American Conference play on Tuesday night, falling 3-0 to Oklahoma Baptist inside the Sawyer Center.

The Crimson Storm (4-8, 0-1 GAC) struggled to find offensive rhythm against a sharp-hitting Bison squad (10-4, 2-0 GAC) that controlled much of the match, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-14.

SNU was paced by Kate Wright, who recorded 11 kills to lead all Storm hitters. Riley Richardson and Georgia Byers added three kills apiece, while setter Emma Grace Moddelmog tallied 11 assists and nine digs. Defensively, Sydney Marquez anchored the back row with 14 digs.

The Storm fought to keep pace early in set one, trading points with the Bison before OBU built separation midway through the frame. Wright sparked the offense with three early kills, but the Bison closed the opener on a 10-2 run to take it 25-13.

In set two, Southern Nazarene showed more fight, pulling within 9-7 after a kill from Byers and a service ace by Hannah Morgan. However, OBU's attack proved steady, as the visitors used a 7-1 stretch to create breathing room on their way to a 25-15 set victory.

The Crimson Storm looked for answers in the third, with Wright continuing to put balls away on the outside and Moddelmog finding spots for Richardson and Byers. Despite the effort, OBU's efficiency at the net—hitting .325 in the set—kept SNU chasing. The Bison closed out the match 25-14 to secure the sweep.
