Crimson Storm Come Up Short Against Southern Arkansas

Late push not enough as Southern Nazarene falls to Southern Arkansas, 26-18

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene nearly staged a fourth-quarter comeback, but a late push wasn't enough as the Crimson Storm fell 26-18 to Southern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at SNU Football Stadium.

The Crimson Storm (0-2, 0-2 GAC) found themselves in an early hole after giving up a safety in the first quarter, but Kameron Van Prooyen answered with a 43-yard field goal to give SNU its first points of the contest. From there, the Muleriders (2-0, 2-0 GAC) used a balanced offensive attack to build a 19-3 lead heading into the final quarter.

SNU showed its fight late, sparking a rally in the fourth behind Kaden Manuel and Braxton Burd. Manuel capped an 11-play, 73-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run before Bryson Evan connected with Burd on the two-point conversion to trim the deficit. Just minutes later, Burd pulled in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Evans, with Van Prooyen adding the extra point to make it 26-18 with just over a minute to play. The late points were not enough as the Muleriders ran down the clock to secure the victory in Bethany.

SAU's offense was led by Hezekiah Harris, who threw for 157 yards, and Katrevion Thomas, who tallied both a rushing and receiving score. Still, the Crimson Storm held the Muleriders scoreless for much of the second half.

Evans led the Storm offense with 136 yards through the air, while Donald May and Kaden Barron combined for nearly 150 yards receiving.
