Southern Nazarene Picks Up First Win of The Season Over ECU

Crimson Storm defeat the Tigers on the road, 17-13

ADA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene earned its first win of the 2025 season on Saturday night, taking down East Central 17-13 at Norris Field in Ada.

The Crimson Storm (1-2, 1-2 GAC) faced a tough challenge against the Tigers (2-1, 2-1 GAC), who entered the contest unbeaten after wins over GAC powerhouse Ouachita Baptist and Arkansas-Monticello. But behind a gritty defensive effort and timely offensive plays, SNU rose to the occasion to hand ECU its first loss of the year.

Southern Nazarene fell behind early as the Tigers built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. The Storm responded just before the period ended, when Braxton Burd broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run to put SNU on the board. After ECU extended its lead with a 52-yard field goal in the second, Kameron Van Prooyen drilled a 32-yard kick just before halftime to trim the deficit to 13-10.

Momentum stayed with the Crimson Storm in the third quarter as Kaden Barron capped a quick two-play drive with a 31-yard touchdown run, giving SNU its first lead of the night at 17-13. From there, the Storm defense dominated, shutting out ECU in the second half and securing the road victory.

Burd sparked the offense with his explosive touchdown run, while Barron's third-quarter score proved to be the game-winner. Van Prooyen was perfect in the kicking game, connecting on both extra points and his lone field goal attempt.
