Storm Fall Short in Doubleheader at Arkansas Tech

The Golden Suns put together two walkoffs to take the series over the Crimson Storm

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Crimson Storm finished their road series in Russellville Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader. The Golden Suns remained persistent picking up two walkoff wins to take the series over Southern Nazarene.

Game 1

The Storm (26-17, 15-11 GAC) looked to take the series after capturing game one Friday evening jumping out to an early 1-0 lead as McKayla Franks drove in one run in the top of the second. Katelyn Woodard got the start in the circle for SNU, handing Arkansas Tech (25-21, 15-12 GAC) four scoreless frames to hold the SNU lead at 1-0.

The Golden Suns came to life in the bottom of the fifth tying the score with an RBI single to right. They followed with a sacrifice fly to take the 2-1 lead heading into the sixth.

The Crimson Storm found just the response they needed thanks to a two-run double from Eden Anderson to take back the lead, 3-2. The Storm was unable to scrap together any insurance runs in the top of seventh as Kelsi Hilton took the mound to finish things off.

ATU was able to string together a few hits and a walk to walkoff the Crimson Storm and take a 4-3 win to even the series.

Game 2

The Storm struck first once again this time in the top of the first thanks to an RBI from Maddie Southerland to lead 1-0. The Golden Suns quickly evened the score with an RBI single knotted up the score after one inning of play.

Arkansas Tech took the lead in the bottom of the second after another RBI single plated one. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Crimson Storm found a spark thanks to a solo shot from Emma Swearingen to tie the score at two all.

The Golden Suns continued to string together hits in the bottom of the seventh and delivered once again plating the winning run thanks to a sacrifice fly to take the 3-2 victory and the series.
