Storm Falls in Series Opener to ATU

Arkansas Tech takes game one with a 4-0 win over Southern Nazarene in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene started their three-game series against Arkansas Tech on Friday afternoon, but it was the Wonder Boys who took the opener with a 4-0 shutout.

Things were quiet early with neither team scoring through the first two innings. ATU (20-18, 15-9 GAC) got on the board in the top of the third with a run to take a 1-0 lead.

SNU (9-30, 3-23 GAC) looked to respond in the bottom of the third. Ryan Talley flied out to left, Aiden McCullough followed with another flyout to left, and Antonio Sabala grounded out to first, making it three quick outs for the Crimson Storm.
Arkansas Tech added to their lead in the fourth inning of the game with another run to go up 2-0.

In the bottom half, Southern Nazarene's bats stayed quiet. Brady Benedict and Weston Hicks both flew out to center and Blake Brinkmeyer grounded out to first to end the inning.

ATU scored two more in the fifth inning of the game to make it 4-0, and that's where it stayed as the Wonder Boy's claimed the victory. ATU was fueled by a standout outing from starting pitcher John Gray who picked up the complete game shutout allowing just two hits in the contest. Parker Presley was also dominant on the mound for SNU allowing just one earned run on the day.

Southern Nazarene will look to bounce back as the series continues this weekend in Bethany.
