Crimson Storm Makes Their Return to the GAC Tournament Championship

Southern Nazarene cruises past the Reddies to make their return to the title game

FORT SMITH, Ark. - The No. 1 seeded Crimson Storm met the No. 5 seed Henderson State for a semifinal showdown at Southside Arena. The SNU defense was magnificent once again, defeating the Reddies, 69-45, to become just the fifth team in conference history to play in back-to-back title games.

The Southern Nazarene (22-6,17-5 GAC) defense held the Reddies (17-13,12-10 GAC) to just 45 points, marking the fewest points SNU has allowed this season. The Crimson Storm also set a new Great American Conference record for the fewest points allowed in the first two rounds of the tournament allowing just 92 points in their first two games.

The Reddies got on the board first with a three, but the Storm quickly answered. Henderson State maintained their lead with a few more buckets, but a three from Stevie Strong and a layup from Timur Krupalija tied the score up at 11.

Strong continued to be an issue for the Reddies knocking down a free throw and another triple. Baron Bracey and Tracy Godfrey Jr. teamed up for a pair of buckets stretching the SNU lead to 19-11.

The Reddies looked to cut into the SNU lead with back-to-back threes, but a three from Bracey kept the Storm in front. Strong and Krupalija each tacked on a layup in the final seconds to give Southern Nazarene a 29-20 lead at the break.

HSU hit the first shot of the second half, but a three from James Burries sparked the SNU offense. The Crimson Storm went to work from there as Strong knocked down another triple to give SNU a 38-25 lead.

The Crimson Storm went to work in the paint before Colby Henderson knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the SNU lead to 50-33. Burries kept the scoring going with another bucket from beyond the arc keeping SNU in full control.

Southern Nazarene finished things off the duo of Strong and Bracey collected a few more buckets securing the 69-45 victory to send SNU back to the championship for the second consecutive season.
