Crimson Storm Falls Short In GAC Tournament Championship

Southern Nazarene comes up short against Harding, 75-74

FORT SMITH, Ark. -  The No. 1 Crimson Storm met the No. 3 Harding Bisons in the GAC Tournament Championship. It was a heart breaker as the Bisons snuck away with the 75-74 victory over SNU to claim the tournament title.

It was all Crimson Storm in the first half, but a late surge from the Harding offense allowed them to sneak away with the victory. The Bisons shot an impressive 57.14 percent from the field in the second half securing their victory.

The Bisons got on the board first with a triple, but a bucket from Baron Bracey and back-to-back threes from Stevie Strong put the Storm in front quickly. SNU continued to work as Colby Henderson added on a few buckets stretching the SNU lead to 14-8.

A three from the Bisons cut the deficit to one, but a layup and three from James Burries pushed the Storm lead back to five. Bracey and Strong teamed up for a pair of threes keeping all momentum with Southern Nazarene.

Another layup form Henderson and a three from Jeremy Golson put the Storm up 12 points with 5:03 left to play in the first half. SNU continued to tack on the points as Henderson hit one final three to give the Crimson Storm a 41-33 lead at halftime.

The Crimson Storm rattled off eight quick points to begin the second half maintaining their lead over Harding. The Bisons made things interesting tying up the score after a 9-0 run. The two squads battled from there, but a Bracey three put SNU back in front 59-56.

A few free throws from Strong and Golson pushed the Crimson Storm lead back to six with 7:08 left to play. The Bisons continued to hang around, but Bracey kept SNU in front with a trip to the foul line.

Harding slowly made their push after a pair of free throws and a deep three gave them a 72-68 lead with 2:23 left to play. Bracey was solid at the charity stripe once again putting SNU within two.

Harding quickly pushed their lead back to five with just 25 seconds left on the clock. Bracey was able to sneak in a layup to put Southern Nazarene within three with just seconds remaining. A steal and a bucket from Henderson cut the Harding lead to one with just one second left to play.

The Crimson Storm fouled the Bisons in hopes of one more chance at a bucket, but were unable to get the shot they wanted ultimately falling 75-74 in the GAC Tournament Championship.

The Storm will now set their sites on the off-season as they prepare for another historic run in 2025-2026.
