Storm Take Down ATU to Advance to the GAC Tournament Semifinals

No. 1 seeded SNU defeats No. 8 Arkansas Tech in opening round of the GAC Tournament, 60-47

FORT SMITH, Ark. - The top-seeded Crimson Storm took on the No. 8 seed Arkansas Tech in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Tournament. It was a 2024 GAC Tournament Championship rematch, but this time Southern Nazarene came out on top, 60-47.

The SNU (21-6, 17-5 GAC) defense was outstanding, holding Arkansas Tech (12-17,9-13 GAC) to just 47 points in the contest. This marked the first time this season the Crimson Storm has held an opponent to less than 50 points. The offense also came to play, as three SNU members notched double-digit points on the night.

It was a defense dominant first half as the Crimson Storm held the Wonder Boys to just 20 points. James Burries kicked off the scoring with a triple to put SNU on the board first. The two squads traded points before a layup from Colby Henderson put the Storm up five.

Arkansas Tech continued to trail close behind cutting the Southern Nazarene lead to one after a made layup. A jumper from Baron Bracey and a three from Jeremy Golson got the SNU offense going again, extending their lead to 16-10.

Nearly three minutes passed before another point was recorded. ATU knocked down a three cutting the deficit to three with 6:39 left in the first half. Golson responded quickly with another bucket from beyond the arc pushing the SNU lead back to six.

The Storm went to work in the paint, but the Wonder Boys continued to chip away at the foul line. Henderson collected one final bucket on a fast break to give SNU a 28-20 lead going into halftime.

Bracey and Strong teamed up for a pair of buckets to begin the second half pushing the SNU lead to 11. A jumper and another three from Golson kept the momentum with the Storm as they led ATU 46-34.  A few more points from Strong and another big three from Golson got the SNU fans on their feet.

Timur Krupalija followed with a dunk to push the Storm lead to 19 with 6:13 left to play. Golson remained lethal, knocking down his fifth three of the evening. The Crimson Storm finished things off as they defeated the Wonder Boys 60-47.
