Rangers Sweep Storm at Feland Field

SNU battles but falls in high-scoring doubleheader

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene wrapped up their three-game series against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday with a doubleheader at Feland Field.

Game 1
Northwestern Oklahoma State (20-14, 10-11 GAC) got on the board first in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead, but SNU (8-25, 3-18 GAC) quickly responded as Brady Benedict hit a solo home run to left center to tie the game.

The Rangers took control in the second, scoring five runs to go up 6-1, but the Storm answered right back. Aiden McCullough doubled in a run, Antonio Sabala added an RBI single, and Benedict drove in another before Weston Hicks capped off the rally with a three-run home run, giving SNU a 7-6 lead.

Blake Brinkmeyer added a solo home run in the third to push the lead to 8-6, but NWOSU cut it to one in the fourth inning. Benedict responded with his second home run of the game, and Brinkmeyer added an RBI single to make it 10-7.

SNU kept adding on in the sixth with an RBI single from McCullough, a sacrifice bunt from Sabala, and a solo home run by Trey Orman, making it 13-9. The Rangers then took advantage of late opportunities, coming back to win a high scoring game, 20-17.

Game 2
The Rangers carried their momentum into the second game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

SNU answered in the second as Sabala drew a bases loaded walk, Benedict hit a sac fly, and Hicks launched his second three-run home run of the day to put the Storm ahead 5-4.

NWOSU tied it up in the third before taking control with a 10 run fourth inning, extending their lead to 15-5.

SNU tried to chip away, with Chase Hudson hitting an RBI double and Ryan Talley driving in two more runs, but the Rangers added another in the sixth and closed out a 16-8 win to complete the series sweep.
