Crimson Storm Clinch Game 1 Over the Rangers

Southern Nazarene defeats Northwestern Oklahoma State, 7-5, in series opener

ALVA, Okla. - The Crimson Storm took on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State for game one of their three-game conference series. Southern Nazarene led the way capturing the 7-5 victory over the Rangers.

The Storm (20-13, 11-7 GAC) got on the board quickly after an RBI single from Emma Swearingen plated one in the top of the first. Olivia Hernandez got the start inside the circle, handing the Rangers (9-21, 5-13 GAC ) a scoreless first frame.

Southern Nazarene kept the scoring going in the second inning after Peyton Norvelle scored on a passed ball. Hannah Morales added to the lead, driving in another run on a sacrifice fly. The Crimson Storm offense was not done yet as Liana Heshiki and Kristen Mullendore each drove in another run to give SNU a 5-0 lead.

Northwestern looked to chip away in the bottom half of the inning and they did just that after a solo home run cut the deficit to four. The Rangers continued to rally plating another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to trail 5-2.

The Storm offense came to life again in the top of the fifth after Hailey Evans doubled to score two runs extending the SNU lead to 7-2. NWOSU threatened the Storm lead putting up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to trail just 7-5.

Janie Worthington finished things off in the circle for SNU, handing the Rangers a scoreless seventh inning to capture the 7-5 game-one victory.
