Crimson Storm Sweep the Rangers in Alva

Southern Nazarene takes the doubleheader over NWOSU to take the series sweep

ALVA, Okla. - The Crimson Storm finished their three-game series with the Rangers Saturday afternoon. Southern Nazarene's offense brought the heat, helping them to the series sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State.


Game 1

The Crimson Storm (22-13, 13-7 GAC) struck early after Emma Swearingen, Maddie Southerland, and Kelsi Hilton teamed up to drive in four runs giving SNU an early lead in the top of the first.

Janie Worthington was nearly unstoppable on the mound handing the Rangers (9-23, 5-15GAC) three scoreless frames. The Storm offense came to life again in the fourth after Hilton notched a solo shot to extend the Crimson Storm lead to 5-0.

Worthington held the Rangers scoreless and hitless through five innings of work keeping all momentum with Southern Nazarene. Liana Heshiki kept the scoring going with a two-run home run to push the SNU lead to 7-0. 

The SNU offense continued to roll, posting a three-run seventh inning to extend their lead to 10-5. Northwestern avoided the shutout with a three-run home run before Southerland finished things off in the circle to secure the 10-3 victory for SNU.

Game 2

The Rangers struck first to begin the series finale plating one run on a single to right field to take an early 1-0 lead. The Storm responded in the top of the second after Eden Anderson tied the score up with an RBI single. Hailey Evans kept the scoring going with a two-run triple before she scored on a Northwestern error to extend the SNU lead to 4-1.

NWOSU got one run back in the bottom of the second after a sacrifice fly plated one run, cutting the deficit to two. The Crimson Storm bats continued to dominate in the fourth, as Kristen Mullendore blasted a three-run shot to give SNU a 7-2 lead.

Southern Nazarene made one final push in the top of the seventh plating three more runs to secure their 10-2 victory and the series sweep. 

Next Up

The Crimson Storm will host Arlington Baptist for a doubleheader at Yukon High School on Tuesday, April 1 at 4:00 pm.
