Storm Falls in Series Opener to Henderson State

Big innings from the Reddies hand SNU a 15-7 loss in Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Southern Nazarene hit the road to take on Henderson State for a three-game conference series but the Reddies' big innings proved to be too much as SNU dropped the opener 15-7.

Henderson State (14-13,9-7 GAC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a run in the first to grab an early 1-0 lead.

The Storm (7-20, 3-13 GAC) quickly answered in the second inning. Trey Orman stepped up and crushed a two run home run to left center, bringing Jaxon Gless across the plate and giving SNU a 2-1 lead. HSU responded right away, plating a run of their own to tie things up at 2-2 after two innings.

In the fourth inning, the Crimson Storm offense went to work. Antonio Sabala doubled to right center, driving in Aiden McCullough and Ryan Talley to push Southern Nazarene ahead 4-2. Brady Benedict kept it going with a double to left center to bring Sabala home, extending the lead to 5-2.

In the fifth inning, the Reddies erupted for seven runs, taking back the lead 9-5.

The Storm tried to rally in the sixth as Sabala singled through the left side, bringing home Talley and advancing to second on a HSU throwing error. Benedict added another RBI with a groundout to second, scoring McCullough to cut the deficit to 9-7.

Henderson State wasn't done though, adding three more runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth to pull away and seal the 15-7 win over the Storm.
