Storm Falls Short in Arkadelphia

Henderson State takes both games to sweep the series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm wrapped up their weekend series against Henderson State with a Saturday doubleheader. SNU couldn't hold off the Reddies, who came away with the series sweep, winning 7-3 and 8-5.

Game 1
The first game started with a quick spark for the Storm (7-22, 3-15 GAC). In the top of the first, Blake Brinkmeyer lined out to left for a sac fly, bringing Antonio Sabala home to put the Crimson Storm on the board, 1-0.

Henderson State (16-13, 11-7 GAC) answered right away, tying it up 1-1 in the bottom of the inning. The Reddies kept the pressure on, adding two more runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

HSU extended their lead in the sixth, scoring three runs to make it 6-1. They added one more run in the eighth to push it to 7-1.

The Storm did not go quietly, though. In the ninth inning, Chase Hudson launched a two-run home run to right center, scoring Trey Orman and cutting the deficit to 7-3. But that was all that SNU could get, as Henderson State locked in the win.

Game 2
Game two started fast for the Crimson Storm in the top of the first, Brinkmeyer laid down a sac bunt, and after a throwing error, Sabala came around to score for a 1-0 lead. The bats stayed hot, as Aiden McCullough hit a triple to right center, bringing home Tanner Bare and Orman to make it 3-0 for the Crimson Storm.

Henderson State got on the board in the second and again in the third inning, cutting the Storm's lead to 3-2.

Southern Nazarnee kept adding on. In the fourth inning, Bare singled up the middle to bring Ryan Talley home, making it 4-2. Then in the fifth inning, Brinkmeyer came through again with a single that scored Sabala to push the lead to 5-2.

But the Reddies had one last big push. In the bottom of the fifth inning, they scored three runs to flip the game and take an 8-5 lead. Henderson State held off the Storm to secure the 8-5 win and the series sweep.
