Crimson Storm Defeat Reddies In Series Opener

SNU explodes for 11 runs in series opener against Henderson State

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm's offense dominated as they defeated the Reddies of Henderson State, 11-5, in game one of their conference series.

Southern Nazarene (17-13, 8-7 GAC) got on the board first after an RBI single from Liana Heshiki kicked things off. Kristen Mullendore followed with an infield single to extend the SNU lead to 2-0. McKayla Franks kept the scoring going with a single through the right side that plated two more runs to give the Storm a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Reddies (15-12, 5-10 GAC) got one run back in the top of the second after an RBI single cut the SNU lead to three. Heshiki stayed hot at the plate for the Crimson Storm knocking in another run on a sacrifice fly to push the SNU lead back to four.

Olivia Hernandez kept the Reddies off balance at the plate before Ashley Larson took over in the third. Henderson State was able to capitalize on the pitching change, putting up a three-run third inning to cut the deficit to one.

Eden Anderson got the offense going again in the bottom of the third with a double to score two, giving SNU a 7-4 lead. Larson then settled in, handing the Reddies a scoreless frame.

Heshiki continued her tear at the plate with a solo blast to left to give the Crimson Storm an insurance run in the fourth. HSU was not done yet as they tacked on a run at the top of the fifth.

The Crimson Storm bats stayed alive as Hailey Evans blasted a three-run shot to push the SNU lead to 11-5. The SNU defense went to work alongside Larson to finish things off and take game one over the Reddies.
