Bison Claim the Series Over the Crimson Storm

Southern Nazarene falls in doubleheader at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm traveled just down the road to take on Oklahoma Baptist for a Tuesday night doubleheader. It was a battle for two straight games, but the Bison came out on top taking the series, 2-0.

Game 1

The Storm  (12-12, 5-6 GAC) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning. Emma Green got things going with a triple before she scored on a wild pitch. McKayla Franks then drew a bases-loaded walk to plate another Crimson Storm run. Maddie Southerland then cleared the bases with a grand slam to give SNU an early lead.

The Bison (14-11, 9-2 GAC) quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning after an RBI single and a three-run home run cut the Crimson Storm lead to two. OBU continued to tack on the runs in the sixth posting six runs on six hits to take the lead 10-6.

The Crimson Storm finally got back on the board in the top of the fourth after a throwing error from the Bison put SNU down 11-7. The Bison offense continued to roll in the fifth after a solo home run extended their lead once again.

The SNU bats struggled to find another response as Oklahoma Baptist tacked on two final runs in the sixth taking the game one victory 14-7 over the Storm.

Game 2

It was a pitcher's duel as both squads had their ace in the circle. The Bison got to starter Janie Worthington quickly with a leadoff home run to take an early 1-0 lead. Worthington settled in and held the OBU there.

Southerland continued to come up clutch at the plate tying the score in the top of the fourth with an RBI single.

Worthington continued to dominate the Bison, but the bats came alive again in the sixth for OBU. They belted two home runs to take a 4-1 lead going into the top of the seventh.

The Bison loaded the bases for Kristen Mullendore who cleared the bases with a three-run double to tie the score at 4-4 with just one out. The Storm was unable to take back the lead going into the bottom half of the inning tied.

Worthington shut down the OBU offense once again, sending the game into extra innings. Southern Nazarene was unable to score in the top of the eighth leaving the score tied headed into the bottom half of the inning.

Sammie Greene led off the top of the seventh for OBU as she blasted her second home run of the game to secure the 5-4 extra-inning win for the Bison.
