Crimson Storm Claim The Series Over Southeastern

Southern Nazarene splits the day two doubleheader, but claim the series over SE

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm looked to claim the series over Southeastern Oklahoma State and did just that, splitting day two of the series with the Savage Storm. SNU claimed game one of the doubleheader, 6-2, but Southeastern avoided the sweep handing the Crimson Storm a 15-7 loss.

Game 1

The Crimson Storm (10-9, 3-3 GAC) got on the board first after Hailey Evans drove in Emma Green to give SNU an early 1-0 lead. Oliva Hernandez kept the SE (8-11, 1-5 GAC) offense quiet, but they took advantage of a few Southern Nazarene errors in the top of the third plating two to take the lead.

Evans came through once again with an RBI single to tie the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Kenedi Morelock added to the SNU lead, driving in two more runs on a single to left center.

Ashley Larsen took over in the circle, continuing to keep the Savage Strom off the board. The SNU offense continued to dominate as Kristen Mullendore sent another run across the plate on a sacrifice fly to extend the SNU lead to 5-2 in the fifth.

Southern Nazarene tacked on one final run in the sixth after a bases-loaded walk to Evans plated a run to give SNU a 6-2 victory to clinch the series.

Game 2

It was an offensive battle as the Savage Storm wasted no time getting to starting pitcher Janie Worthington. SE collected three early runs off of singles to take a 3-0 lead. The Savage Storm continued to add to their score driving in a run in both the third and fourth innings.

The Crimson Storm tacked on their first run of the game after a Southeastern error sent Green home. The Savage Storm continued to swing it, extending their lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth.

Green gave SNU some momentum as she hit a bases clearing triple to cut the SE lead to 7-4. Evans then reached on an error to plate Green, cutting the deficit to two. The Crimson Storm tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth after a sacrifice fly from Hannah Morales put SNU within one.

Southeastern ruined any chance of a Southern Nazarene sweep after the Savage Storm posted an eight-run seventh inning. SNU was able to get one run back after a McKayla Franks double, but the Savage Storm claimed game three, 15-7 in Bethany.

Next Up

The Storm will travel to Weatherford for a three-game conference series at Southwestern Oklahoma State. They will take on the Bulldogs on Friday, March 7 for a single game at 1:00 pm and Saturday, March 9 for a noon doubleheader.
