Crimson Storm Pitching Shines at SWOSU

SNU picks up two wins over the Bulldogs to claim the series

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hit the road to begin their three-game conference series at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Southern Nazarene met the Bulldogs for a Friday doubleheader in Weatherford collecting two conference wins to claim the series.

Game 1

Janie Worthington pitched another gem for the Storm (12-9, 4-3 GAC) allowing just four hits in her seven innings of work. Her offense had her back getting on the board first after a two-run blast from Peyton Norvelle gave SNU an early 2-0 lead in the second.

The Bulldogs (9-10, 2-6 GAC) kept the Storm bats quiet until the fifth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from McKayla Franks that extended the Crimson Storm lead to three.

SWOSU tried to chip away at the SNU lead with a solo home run to trail Southern Nazarene 3-1. Kenedi Morelock reached base on an error that then sent one run home, extending the SNU lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Bulldogs were able to tack on one final run on a wild pitch, but their comeback was not enough as the Crimson Storm collected the game one victory, 4-2.

Game 2

The Crimson Storm claimed the doubleheader sweep thanks to a shutout in the circle from the duo of Oliva Hernandez and Maddie Southerland. The two only allowed four Bulldog hits in their combined seven innings of work.

SNU got on the board first once again after Eden Anderson drove in a run in the top of the second. The Crimson Storm added to their lead after a wild pitch sent Marlee Warden across home in the third.

Anderson got things going in the top of the fifth with a double to right field to plate Liana Heshiki. Franks followed with an RBI single up the middle to extend the SNU lead once more. Emma Green then drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Crimson Storm in front 5-0 after four innings.

It was a pitchers duel from there as Hernandez and Southerland teamed up in the circle to deliver a shutout victory, 5-0, to claim the series for SNU.

Next Up

The Crimson Storm will finish their series with the Bulldogs on Sunday, March 10 at 4:00 pm for a single game in Weatherford.
