Storm Fall In First Two Games of the UCO/OC Classic

Crimson Storm come up short against Pitt State and No. 24 Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. - The Crimson Storm was back in action at the UCO/OC Classic. The No. 20 Storm took on Pitt State and No. 24 Oklahoma Christian falling short in both Friday contests.

Game 1
It was a pitcher's duel from the jump as Olivia Hernandez held the Gorillas (5-2, 0-0 MIAA) scoreless through two innings of play.

Pitt State then struck first in the top of the third after back-to-back doubles plated two. The Storm (5-2, 0-0 GAC) was unable to respond until the bottom of the fourth when Kristen Mullendore singled up the middle to send Kenedi Morelock and Hannah Huggins home to tie the score at 2-2.

The Gorillas were the first to break the tie as they tacked on another run off of a double down the left field line. Pitt State did not stop there as they took advantage of an SNU pitching change blasting a grand slam to extend their lead to 7-2.

The Storm was down to their last chance in the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and two outs on the board. Hailey Evans blasted her own grand slam to put the Storm within one. Unfortunately, the Gorillas collected the final out taking the 7-6 victory over the Crimson Storm.

Game 2
Katelyn Woodard started in the circle for the Storm as the Eagles (5-1, 0-0 LSC) struck early with a double down the left field line to plate one. OC did not stop there as they tacked on two more runs on a two-run bomb to lead 3-0.

Oklahoma Chrisitan shut down the Storm offense before they plated one more on an SNU error. Janie Worthington took over on the mound shutting down the Eagles at the plate giving the Storm some momentum.

The Crimson Storm found their breakthrough in the top of the sixth when Evans notched a solo shot to get SNU on the board.

The Storm looked for another comeback in the top of the seventh and Mckayla Franks sparked one as she drove in another run to cut the deficit to two. That would be all the Eagles allowed as they handed the Crimson Storm a 4-2 defeat.

Next Up
The Crimson Storm will play their final day of the UCO/OC Classic on Saturday, February 8, and take on No.9  Rogers State at 12:45 pm and No. 25 Central Oklahoma at 5:45 pm.
