Storm Earn GAC Tournament Berth With Victory Over Arkansas Tech

Crimson Storm hangs on late to take down the Wonder Boys 68-66

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted the Wonder Boys for a Thursday matchup inside the Sawyer Center. Southern Nazarene was able to hang on late to fend off a scrappy Arkansas Tech to claim a 68-66 victory and clinch a spot in the GAC Tournament.

The SNU (17-2,14-1 GAC) offense was led once again by Stevie Strong who posted 21 points on the evening. Baron Bracey and Tracy Godfrey Jr. also saw double-digit scoring as they both posted 11 points on the night, respectively.

The Crimson Storm got on the board first after a layup from Colby Henderson. The Wonder Boys (9-12,6-9 GAC) tied the score quickly at the free throw line before Bracey knocked down two free throws of his own and a three.

Strong followed with a three before Jeremey Golson knocked one down for himself. Golson then found Timur Krupalija who went right past the Wonder Boys' defense for a dunk pushing the SNU lead to 20-11.

The dunk from Krupalija sparked a 9-0 run for the Crimson Storm before ATU added a bucket in the paint. Tracy Godfrey Jr. went to work as he tacked on a few points of his own to give SNU a 31-14 lead with 5:07 left to play in the first half.

Strong then knocked down a pair of free throws to run up the Storm score once more. The Wonder Boys were able to get in two final buckets before the halftime break as SNU led 33-22.

The Crimson Storm offense picked up right where they left off as Strong opened the second half with a bucket fro. beyond the arc. Godfrey Jr. picked up a bucket and a pair of free throws helping add to the SNU lead. Golson hit another three to extend the lead to 43-27.

The Storm continued to roll as Henderson knocked down a triple thanks to an assist from Bracey. Arkansas Tech continued to chip away, but another bucket from Henderson kept the Storm in front by 16.

The Wonder Boys were not backing down as they went on a 14-2 run to cut the Southern Nazarene lead to four. Back-to-back ATU layups and a pair of free throws cut the deficit to one with just 1:55 left to play.

Another layup and free throw from the Wonder Boys gave them their first lead of the night, but Strong came up clutch knocking down a three to put the Crimson Storm back in front 66-64.

Golson was sent to the charity stripe where he notched two clutch free throws to push the SNU lead to four. Arkansas Tech was then sent to the line where they knocked down two free throws but were left with no time for another comeback as the Crimson Storm secured the 68-66 victory.
